Two-Hour Special Premieres Sunday, December 15, and Headlines an All-New Slate of Upcoming Original VH1 Programs and Series

Other New Series and Specials Include: 'Rock Med,' 'Mock Rock,' 'Inside/Out' and 'VH1 Ambushed'

NEW YORK, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- VH1 announces new series, new specials and one BIG special event. VH1 has always been recognized for modern nostalgia and celebrating the music, artists and collective moments that define our culture. With the "VH1 Big in 2002 Awards," the network will take this concept to a whole new level.

On Sunday, December 15, the "VH1 Big in 2002 Awards" will package the year's best (and otherwise) in music, movies, TV and personalities and put it all into a neat two-hour time-capsule. With categories like "Can't Get You Out of My Head" (the year's most ubiquitous song,) "Do I Look Fat In This Fight?" (The year's greatest TV and movie spy chick,) and "Been Caught Scene Stealin'" (the year's most unexpected stand-out movie performance,) we'll instantly chronicle those moments and people that captivated and inspired us in 2002. The show evolved from "The My VH1 Music Awards" and will be filmed at Los Angeles' Grand Olympic Auditorium. The year-end special features live musical performances, celebrity presenters and special guests. Winners will be decided by a panel of tastemakers from the worlds of entertainment, sports and government, as well as heavy pop culture consumers from everyday life; with select categories decided by online voting. (Categories and nominees are attached.)

In announcing these shows Brian Graden, President, Entertainment for MTV and VH1 and Christina Norman, General Manager VH1 commented:

"Music, instant nostalgia and premiere storytelling continue to define VH1's central mission and as music always reflects the broader movements in pop culture, so will VH1," commented Graden. "Our 'Big in 2002 Awards,' along with some of our other signature programming such as 'I Love the 80's,' all will take aim at the defining moments in culture, be they in film, television, politics, and of course, music."

"The 'VH1 Big in 2002 Awards' signify the network's continuing evolution," explained Norman. "We'll mirror this evolution with new programming that reflects VH1's ongoing commitment to music, while embracing fresh new television approaches."

The slate of all-new original shows making their debuts on VH1 in upcoming months:

     * "Inside/Out": Success, maturity, scandal, happenstance -- sooner or
later, every artist comes to a personal or professional crossroads. In
the first new episode singer-songwriter Warren Zevon gives us complete
access as he races to finish what will be his final album before he
succumbs to cancer. From the producers of the hit series "Behind the
Music," this new VH1 cinema verite documentary series offers viewers
unprecedented access into the lives of artists struggling with the
demands placed upon them and presents an unflinching portrait of
music's most compelling figures. This show follows our premiere
episode: "Tommy Lee: The Naked Truth" which chronicled his summer and
his custody battle. Later this year we'll watch as Jaime Foxx returns
to his music roots as he records his second album.

     * "Rock Med": Heart attacks, broken legs and severe sunburns -- rock
concerts can be hell on a fan. Most incidents are minor, but if you're
unfortunate enough to have one, hope that you're in San Francisco where
the mobile emergency medical team of doctors has been volunteering at
the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic for years. This VH1 series looks at
what happens when a night of great music goes awry, and follows the
"Rock Meds" who selflessly volunteer free services at major concerts in
the Bay Area, Pacific Northwest, and beyond.

     * "Mock Rock": Some of the world's hottest bands sound and look exactly
like ... somebody else. This new VH1 series shows a band's members
transforming from the mundane to the fabulous and takes them out of
their local dives and gives them a once-in-a-lifetime chance to
headline a show at a major rock star venue -- and come face-to-face
       with their idols.

     * "VH1's Ambushed": Watch as VH1's cameras tag along as unsuspecting
local players answer an anonymous ad seeking "musician wanted for cover
band" -- and instead find themselves auditioning for world-famous
superstars the Goo Goo Dolls. Then the palms get even sweatier when
one of the hopefuls is chosen by the band to play a song with them in
concert later that night in Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay. This special is
the first of a series of "VH1's Ambushed" specials will air next year.

     * "50 Greatest Hip Hop Artists of All Time": This VH1 special counts
down the greatest hip-hop artists and songs in one of music's hottest
genres, celebrating the impact of such groundbreaking groups as TLC,
Run-D.M.C., The Beastie Boys, Outkast, and many others.

In addition to these announcements, VH1 announced earlier this summer full season pick ups of the series "Driven" and "Ultimate Albums."
